What is the contest about?

The contest is about the creation of new and innovative interior designs for trains. Questions like how a modern train interior should look like and what kind of innovative features should be integrated need to be solved. Thereby it is irrelevant if participants have great experience in interior design or not, the contest is addressed to professionals, students, hobby designers and everyone who is interested into the topic. Thereby the designs can be submitted drawn freehand or computer generated, by using the configuration tool or just by explaining the interior idea. Participants may either design a seat upholstery with the configuration tool or freely create an interior design to the following three topics:
The Leisure Passenger The Business Traveler The Everyday Passenger
The target group of this interior are families and passengers on their way to leisure. They enjoy the services on board and travelling implies some kind of experience for them The design is addressed to passengers on their way to work or back at home and may represent some kind of office space with all necessary elements of a work environment. The design shall attract passengers to use public transport and give them a feeling of comfort and being at home.

How does the contest work?

You may contribute new suggestions and evaluate them, as well as evaluate and discuss the contributions of others. The platform is designed in order to create a real and innovative community
Dates
  • Start of the contest: 26 October 2009
  • End of submission: 16 December 2009 04. January 2010
  • Expert Evaluation: January 2010
  • Jury Meeting: February 2010
  • Announcement of winners: March 2010

Design Submission

The submission of a design is really easy. You may enter your freely created design with the help of an easy-to-use submission toolkit or you can use a configuration tool for your personal vision of the upholstery of a seat.
Submission of Freely Created Designs
  1. Download information material (Yourail Design Contest_Info Car.zip)
  2. Choose one (or more) of the three topics("The Leisure Passenger", "The Professional Passenger", "The Everyday Passenger")
  3. Upload your design and describe it
  4. Add additional pictures
  5. Upload additional attachments
  6. Submit your idea
  7. Post your design on your Facebook account, if you want
Submission of Configured Designs
  1. Choose the background color for the seat cover
  2. Create the pattern of the seat cover’s fabric
  3. Select and place various symbols on your seat cover
  4. Define the color of the seat’s armrest
  5. Describe your design
  6. Submit your idea
  7. Post your design on your Facebook account, if you want

Evaluation

You may evaluate the designs in the competition and thereby support the jury and increase your activity counter. As a participant of the contest, you may state whether you like or dislike the design of other contestants through an intuitive vote. You may indicate your valuation of a design by assigning 1 to 5 points to the design. The average rating is displayed within the design pool.

Comments/Discussion

Beside the possibility of evaluating the designs of others, you may also post comments on every design or reply to the comments of others. Again, this increases your activity counter and supports the jury in finding the winners. To add comments, you may use the convenient commenting function at the bottom of each design.

Messages

You may also leave public messages to other community members on their profiles by using the message-function on the member's profile. This also increases your activity counter.

Registration

In order to participate in the contest, you have to register. As a registered user you can contribute your designs and become a candidate for the prizes and also read, evaluate and comment on other designs. To finalize your registration, you have to agree to the Terms and Conditions. To register, you must take the following steps:
  1. Login information (mandatory)
  2. Personal information (optional)
  3. Recommendation of the competition to your networks and friends (optional)
  4. Agreement with the Terms and Conditions of the contest (mandatory)
  5. Register
After your registration you may answer a few questions about how you feel about the enterprise Bombardier Transportation and public transportation.

Terms and Conditions

To be eligible to take part in the contest, submit ideas and win one of the prizes. Remember you must become a registered user and agree with the terms and conditions of the contest. The whole contest phase is being charged by the HYVE Innovation Community GmbH. HYVE is a German innovation agency dealing with customer integration into the product innovation process.
